Membership Meeting of the Tennessee Genealogical Society
Join us after the meeting, as we welcome Kaye Strong who will present a program about Quilts and the Underground Railroad. The presentation will tell the story of how slaves in the south used quilts to aid in the successful escape of slaves to Canada prior to the civil war. Also of the way African cultures were preserved in quilting. The quilt and history are based on the book Hidden in Plain View by Jacqueline Tobin and Raymond Dobard,Ph.D. The story was interpreted to quilting by Eleanor Burns and Sue Bouchard. It is a story rich in cultures, courage, faith and cooperation preserved in quilting.
