Join us for an evening with Donald Harrison, local historian and docent, as he relates tales of Spies and the Confederacy, based on tours through Elmwood Cemetery.
The Spy Sisters is a story of two Confederate spies, the sisters Virginia Bethel "Ginny" Moon and Charlotte Moon Clark. This was a Virginia family that lived in Ohio and had Memphis connections during the Civil War. Some of their escapades are quite humorous but the two sisters played important roles in passing along communications between Copperheads, Southern sympathizers in the North, and Confederates in the South. Ginny Moon had an interesting life after the war being an unconventional woman whose ideas of independence and leadership was ahead of her time. She actually rode in an airplane and appeared in three silent movies before she died in Greenwich Village in New York in 1925.
